OK, so were all willing to go to war to end terrorism. I think that to be a great cause, so let's really understand what it is we undertake. First, the definition: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ter·ror·ism (tr-rzm) n. The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, let us truly explore the meaning of a war against terrorism. The bin Laden's of the world are easy; almost everyone can see the evidence and agree on the need for action. But; why have we not recognized the multiple acts of terrorism by all parties in the middle east? What do we do with the IRA? They, after all, are terrorists, too; no different in action than bin Laden.... Or the really difficult question: What do we do about the terrorist acts being committed by Americans, right now, in the name of avenging the World Trade Center? I am sorry, but there can be no distinction between hijacking an airplane to use it as a bomb, setting a bomb in a public place, shooting up a night club in Tel Aviv, or breaking the windows of a mosque in America. They are all acts of terrorism. If we would truly have a war on terrorism, don't we need to stop committing it ourselves?
